چکیده

L-I-V Testing Basic Light intensity-Current-Voltage (L-I-V) testing is an I-V test with the addition of optical power measurements. This test is primarily used to sort laser diodes or weed out bad devices before they become part of an assembly. The device under test (DUT) is subjected to a current sweep while the forward voltage drop is recorded for each step in the sweep. Simultaneously, instrumentation is used to monitor the optical power output of the laser's front facet and rear facet. The resulting data is then analyzed to determine laser characteristics, including lasing threshold current, quantum efficiency, and "kink" detection (localized negative slope in the first derivative optical power output vs. injection current curve).

Generating photoacoustic signals using high-peak power pulsed laser diodes

Photoacoustic signals are usually generated using bulky and expensive Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers, with limited scope for varying the pulse repetition frequency, wavelength and pulse width. An alternative would be to use laser diodes as excitation sources; these devices are compact, relatively inexpensive, and available in a wide variety of NIR wavelengths. Their pulse duration and repetition rate...

Continuous wave laser diodes enable fast optoacoustic imaging

Pulsed laser diodes may offer a smaller, less expensive alternative to conventional optoacoustic laser sources; however they do not provide pulse rates faster than a few tens of kHz and emit at wavelengths only within the near-infrared region. We investigated whether continuous wave (CW) laser diodes, which are available in visible and near-infrared regions, can be good optoacoustic light sourc...

Improving Blue InGaN Laser Diodes Performance with Waveguide Structure Engineering

To enhance lasers’ power and improve their performance, a model wasapplied for the waveguide design of 400 nm InGaN/InGaN semiconductor laser, whichis much easier to implement. The conventional and new laser structures weretheoretically investigated using simulation software PICS3D, which self-consistentlycombines 3D simulation of carrier transport, self-heating, and opt...

A new compact high brilliance diode laser type

Our work deals with a new approach to improve the beam quality of diode lasers, which is still insufficient for many applications. We propose time-multiplexing, where several pulsed laser diode beams are guided onto a common optical path. This allows to superpose the power of the diodes while maintaining the beam parameter product of a single laser diode. Pulsed operation of continuous wave las...

Dual wavelength laser diode excitation source for 2D photoacoustic imaging

Photoacoustic methods can be used to make spatially resolved spectroscopic measurements of blood oxygenation when using a multiwavelength excitation source, such as an OPO system. Since these excitation sources are usually expensive and bulky, an alternative is to use laser diodes. A fibre coupled laser diode excitation system has been developed, providing two wavelengths, 850 and 905nm, each c...
